Who Are the Year 6 Leaders?

The Year 6 Leadership Team is a group of 16 exemplary pupils democratically elected by their peers to embody and promote the East Park 8 values within our school community. These values—Kindness, Voice, Leadership and Responsibility, Creativity, Self-Belief, Independence, Collaboration and Determination—serve as the foundation for our school ethos, and the Year 6 Leaders are entrusted with the responsibility of championing these principles in their daily actions and interactions.

How Are the Leaders Chosen?

Year 6 Leaders are selected through a thorough application process designed to highlight their commitment to the East Park 8 values and reflect the process of being selected for government positions as would happen in the real-world process. Interested pupils must complete an application form, which includes a personal statement about why they are suited for the role. Additionally, candidates are required to provide two references: one from a family member or friend and another from a member of the school community, such as a teacher or staff member. This ensures that each leader is chosen based on their proven dedication to the values and their ability to inspire others.

The Role of the Year 6 Leaders

As ambassadors of the East Park 8 values, the Year 6 Leadership Team plays a pivotal role in shaping the school culture. They lead by example, inspire their peers and work collaboratively with staff to ensure these values are consistently upheld. Their key responsibilities include:

1. Promoting the East Park 8 Values

Kindness: Initiating acts of kindness and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Voice: Encouraging open communication and ensuring every pupil’s voice is heard.
Leadership and Responsibility: Leading by example and encouraging others to take responsibility for their actions and learning.
Creativity: Driving innovative projects and inspiring creative thinking across the school.
Self-Belief: Instilling confidence in their peers and promoting a positive mindset.
Independence: Encouraging pupils to take initiative and make independent decisions.
Collaboration: Fostering teamwork and mutual support across all year groups.
Determination: Demonstrating resilience and motivating others to persevere in the face of challenges.

2. School Representation - Year 6 Leaders represent the school during key events, such as open days, school visits and community projects as well as talk in weekly praise assembly. They act as ambassadors for East Park Academy, embodying its vision and values in all they do.

3. Driving School Improvement - The leaders work closely with both the JLT and staff to identify areas for development and suggest improvements. through taking part in learning walks with SLT. They help plan and implement projects that enhance the school environment, curriculum and overall pupil experience.

4. Supporting Younger Pupils - Acting as mentors and role models, the Year 6 Leaders provide guidance and support to younger pupils, helping them understand and embody the East Park 8 values in their own lives.

The Year 6 Leadership Team exists to ensure that the East Park 8 values are not just words on a page, but principles actively practiced and celebrated across the school. By empowering our leaders to take ownership of these values, we create a culture where every pupil is inspired to contribute to their community and the wider world.

What Does the Year 6 Leadership Team Do?

The Year 6 Leaders take on diverse responsibilities to bring the East Park 8 values to life:

Organising School-Wide Initiatives - From charity fundraisers to environmental projects, they develop and lead initiatives that reflect the school’s values and priorities.
Leading Assemblies and Workshops - The leaders prepare and deliver engaging sessions to educate their peers about the importance of the East Park 8 values.
Building Community Connections - The Year 6 Leaders work on projects that strengthen the bond between the school and the local community, ensuring the values are felt beyond the school gates.
Modelling Positive Behaviour - Through their actions and attitudes, the leaders inspire others to live by the East Park 8 values every day.
