Junior Leadership Team

What is The Junior Leadership Team? The Junior Leadership Team (JLT) at East Park Academy is a group of pupils elected to represent the voices of all students. Together, they work to enhance their school, serve the local community and make a positive impact on the world.

Aligned with East Park Academy’s vision and values, the JLT fosters respect, ambition and a strong sense of community. Through collaboration and leadership, Junior Leaders are empowered to drive change and embody the school’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.

How Are Junior Leaders Elected? We follow a democratic process to elect our Junior Leaders. If a child wishes to join the JLT, they prepare and present a short speech to their class. Afterward, a democratic vote is held, and two representatives are chosen from each class (Year 3 to Year 5). Junior Leaders are expected to model the school’s core values in their behaviour and actions at all times.

What Do Junior Leaders Do?

The JLT collaborates with the Head Teacher, teachers and other staff to improve the school experience for all pupils. They act as the voice of their peers, ensuring every student has the opportunity to contribute to shaping their education and the future of East Park Academy.

JLT meetings are structured and purposeful. Leaders create their own agendas, and roles such as chairing meetings and taking minutes are fulfilled by team members. These meetings allow Junior Leaders to discuss key issues, propose solutions and plan future actions.

Why Do We Have a Junior Leadership Team? The JLT exists to:

  • Enhance the school through the perspective of its pupils.

  • Provide a platform for students to share their ideas and opinions.

  • Address and resolve issues that matter to children.

What Happens During JLT Meetings?

The Junior Leaders meet regularly with Senior Leaders to discuss termly action plans. They also meet with their respective classes to gather ideas about improvements and changes. Through surveys and class discussions, they collect opinions and feedback, which they bring back to the JLT meetings to inform decision-making and planning.

Key Areas of Focus At East Park Academy, the Junior Leadership Team leads and manages initiatives in three core areas:

1. School Projects:

  • Collaborating on school improvement projects such as enhancing playground equipment, enriching the curriculum and promoting new initiatives.

  • Ensuring every project aligns with East Park Academy’s ambition to provide a vibrant and engaging learning environment.

2. Community Projects:

  • Organising fundraising events and volunteer opportunities to support local causes.

  • Engaging with families and the wider community to strengthen connections and promote shared values.

3. World Projects:

  • Planning and implementing initiatives that address global challenges, such as environmental conservation and charitable outreach.

  • Building links with schools and organisations worldwide to foster a sense of global citizenship and responsibility.
