Art and Design
Subject Overview
At East Park Academy, we believe that art enriches lives through creativity, exploration, inspiration, and individuality. In Art and Design, children are given the chance to flourish through an exciting and engaging creative approach, allowing each child to truly connect with their creative journey. Our bespoke curriculum is designed to unlock the potential of every child, recognising that all children are unique.
Through our curriculum, children will be given opportunities to let their artwork connect with other areas of the school curriculum, making art meaningful and purposeful. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that art is not just an isolated subject but a vital part of a holistic education. Children will develop ideas, master techniques, and take inspiration from great artists through painting, collaging, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, textiles and digital media.
Our curriculum encourages pupils to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design, fostering a love of art that extends beyond the classroom. We place a strong emphasis on extending prior learning, ensuring that each new skill builds on what has been previously mastered. This method not only reinforces knowledge but also inspires children to experiment and innovate. Additionally, our students’ artwork is regularly showcased in our gallery, celebrating their achievements and inspiring others.

By learning about great artists, craft makers and designers, pupils gain insights into the historical and cultural development of art forms, which enriches their own creative processes. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of each child, helping them to unlock their full potential. By fostering an environment where children feel confident and resilient, we nurture a lifelong love of art. This rounded approach ensures that every child can make meaningful progress, celebrating their unique contributions to the world of art and design.
